Periyasamy, Valarmathi acquittal under HCs scanner Times of India

CHENNAI: DMK's incumbent minister I Periyasamy and AIADMK's former minister B Valarmathi, on Thursday joined the growing list of politicians facing suo motu revision proceedings against their acquittal or discharge in disproportionate assets cases. Justice N Anand Venkatesh listed the suo motu revision proceedings against them to be taken up for hearing on Friday. In March, the additional special court for cases against MPs and MLAs in Chennai acquitted Periyasamy from a case of illegal allotment of a Tamil Nadu Housing Board plot to a PSO of former CM M Karunanidhi in 2008. In 2012, the DVAC registered an FIR against Periyasamy and PSO Ganesan. Valarmathi, AIADMK social welfare minister from 2001 and 2006, was acquitted from the case in 2021. DMK ministers K Ponmudy, Thangam Thennarasu, K K S S R Ramachandran and former CM O Panneerselvam are facing suo motu proceedings. Justice Anand Venkatesan has called for details of discharge or acquittal orders passed by the special court and said he would analyse them.
